Dear reader

Over the past few months, the world has faced numerous uncertainties, including those from a South African perspective: uncertainties around the government’s budget, interest rates, exchange rates, fuel prices, imports and exports due to the condition of our ports, and the national elections.

The business sector, in particular, has also been confronted with drastic changes in tax legislation concerning trusts, new regulations on the reporting of beneficial ownership of trusts and companies to combat money laundering, and revised requirements for reporting of information in financial statements.

Uncertainty and change often go hand in hand, as the fear of the unknown is inherent to human nature. While uncertainty and change can bring fear, they also present numerous opportunities and platforms for progress.

As the late U.S. President John F. Kennedy said: “Change is the law of life and those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.”

The changes that have characterised 2024 so far are more optimistic when we look beyond the uncertainty and accept that change is the only constant in life. There are many reasons for optimism: interest rates may soon decrease, the exchange rate is showing signs of recovery, fuel prices have decreased for consecutive months over the last quarter, loadshedding has been put on hold (for now), and the Government of National Unity holds the promise of a new chapter in South Africa’s future.

Change in the business world is abundant but change also presents opportunities for growth and progress. Our dedicated team, with their diverse expertise, strives to proactively address these changes. In doing so, we ensure that our clients can approach the final quarter of 2024 with peace of mind and optimism.

Best regards

Pieter, Christa, Jaco, Reinhard and Jacques
